Professional and Academic Background

I have a varied professional background. After graduating from High School, I joined the United States Navy. Entering into the Navy Nuclear Program, I learned the fundamentals of:

After completing a little over a year aboard the U.S.S. Carl Vinson I was directly commissioned as an Ensign (O1) and left the Navy a Lieutenant (O3).

After my time in the military, I decided to pursue a career in Medicine. While I was attending the University of Washington as an undergraduate, I spent time working at two large local hospitals. In these positions, I was able to observe first–hand both the good and the bad of the U.S. health care system. When I completed my degree, I applied for and was accepted to University of Washington's School of Medicine.

From my first experience inside a hospital to the begining of my training in medical school I realized how vital Information Systems had become to providers, nurses, pharmacists, executives, researchers, patients and the supply chain. So, I decided to pursue both a degree in Medicine and a Master’s in Computer Information Systems.

Hobbies and Interests

My partner and I live in the Bryant neighborhood of Seattle. Here is a map provided by Google Maps©:

Map of Seattle's Bryant Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is very close to some great dog parks so our two rescues can burn off all the seemingly boundless pent–up energy they have. It is also a great place to run or take a nice walk or read a good book at a nearby beach (you can take your pick from fresh water lakes or dip your feet in the sea). Venturing outside of Seattle, the Pacific North West offers fantastic outdoor activities. The winter offers great skiing or snowboarding. One of my favorite places is The Summit at Snoqualmie. Hiking is one of the major pastimes during the summer months. There are world class trails:

Finally, Seattle often gets a bad or at least highly exaggerated reputation for bad weather. I must stand up to defend my fair city. While it is true, we do have wet winters our summers are generally quite dry and have moderate temperatures. Below is the forecast for the next several days.
